Biography

Fernando Varela is a professional football player from Spain. He was born on May 25, 1987, in Fuenmayor, La Rioja, Spain. Varela primarily plays as a center-back but can also play as a right-back. Varela started his youth career at Real Zaragoza before joining the first team in 2006. He made his professional debut for Zaragoza in the Segunda División and quickly became an integral part of the team. His impressive performances helped the club achieve promotion to La Liga in the 2008-2009 season. In 2013, Varela signed for Russian club FC Krasnodar, where he continued to showcase his defensive skills. After spending a few seasons at Krasnodar, he joined Greek side AEK Athens in 2016. Varela played a crucial role in AEK's successful campaign in the Greek Super League, helping the team win the title in the 2017-2018 season. Varela has also represented the Spanish national team at various levels. He appeared for the U19 and U21 teams, but he hasn't received a call-up to the senior team as of now.
