Biography
Antonio Silva, commonly known as António, is a retired Portuguese professional footballer who played as a forward. Silva was born on February 28, 1979, in Angola. He began his professional career in 1996 with the Portuguese club GD Chaves and went on to play for various teams throughout his career, including Sporting CP, Benfica, and Porto. Silva's most successful period came during his time with Porto, where he won multiple league titles and the UEFA Cup in the 2002-2003 season. He also represented the Portuguese national team, earning 27 caps and scoring 9 goals. After leaving Porto in 2005, Silva had stints with several clubs in different countries, including French side Paris Saint-Germain, Russian club FC Kuban Krasnodar, and Azerbaijani team Qarabağ. He retired from professional football in 2013. Despite not achieving global fame like some of his compatriots, Antonio Silva had a successful career in Portuguese football and left a mark on several clubs he represented.
